ResDiary is a solid, feature-rich reservation system built for UK and Australian hospitality — with no per-cover fees. But it's not the right fit for every independent restaurant. Here's the honest assessment.

ResDiary is a Glasgow-based restaurant reservation platform, founded in 2005, and one of the most widely used booking systems for independent and group restaurants in the UK, Ireland, and Australia. It's acquired by Comtrex (formerly Zonal), which means it's part of a broader hospitality technology group with deep UK market roots.

Unlike OpenTable or TheFork, ResDiary doesn't charge per-cover fees. It's a flat monthly subscription — which makes the maths much more predictable for busy restaurants.

ResDiary Pricing (2025)

ResDiary doesn't publish its full pricing publicly, but based on industry data and restaurant operator reports:

Crucially: no per-cover fees. This is ResDiary's primary competitive advantage over OpenTable and TheFork for high-volume restaurants.

What ResDiary Does Well

ResDiary has strong feature depth that independent restaurants genuinely use:

Where ResDiary Falls Short

ResDiary is a well-built system for its era, but it shows its age in several areas compared to newer platforms:

"ResDiary solves the per-cover fee problem. But it doesn't solve the phone problem, the discovery problem, or the AI era gap. It's a good 2015 solution in a 2025 market."

Who ResDiary Is Right For

ResDiary makes sense for: UK-based restaurant groups running 3+ sites who want centralised management, restaurants that are already integrated with Comtrex POS, and venues with dedicated operations staff who can handle the setup complexity.

ResDiary is probably overkill for: single-site independent restaurants under 80 covers, restaurants needing fast setup (3 days vs 1–2 weeks), and any restaurant that needs to solve the missed call problem without adding a second subscription.
